Access to College Security Video and Images
All College security recording media and recorded still and video images are the property of the College. Dissemination (including viewing) outside of the Campus Safety Department is strictly prohibited, except to the extent permitted by this policy or required by law. This policy aims to protect the safety, well-being, and confidentiality of the community.
Video recordings may be reviewed by the individuals in accordance with applicable union contracts, policies, and laws:
- A college investigator (and investigator approved parties) who are in an active official investigation, such as a student conduct investigation, threat assessment, Title IX inquiry, security or safety investigation or a criminal investigation.
- Campus Safety personnel during the normal course of their duties.
- In the event of a clear and present danger or active threat outlined in section "Law Enforcement".
All other requests to view or obtain a video or still images from Campus Safety shall follow State public disclosure laws.
Law Enforcement
Regardless of the student's age or position, Pierce College will not distribute information, including video, except to the extent permitted by this policy or required by law. Authorities are prohibited from viewing video footage unless they have an official document, such as a search warrant or subpoena granted from a city, county, or federal judicial entity.
In the event of a clear and present danger or active threat that causes immediate concerns to the life and safety of our students and employees on or adjacent to college property, at the college's discretion, may grant immediate access to recorded and live media for city, county, state, and/or federal law enforcement officials limited to and for the purpose of mitigating the active event.
Additionally, the college may release video footage if there is an impact to college property where a material loss to the state has occurred.
