As part of the "Shot of a Lifetime" COVID-19 vaccination incentive campaign provided by the state, Pierce College will soon be holding a drawing for ten $1,000 scholarships per campus.

How Does the Program Work?

Eligibility Requirements

  • Students who were enrolled in spring term with at least six credits, and did not graduate or complete, will automatically be entered into the drawing.
  • Washington state resident for at least 30 days before the date of the scholarship award.
  • Proof of at least one shot of your COVID-19 vaccine regimen.

There is no application for this drawing. If you fulfill these eligibility requirements, you will automatically be entered into our drawing. To receive this scholarship, selected students must have already been vaccinated, or receive at least the first shot of your COVID-19 vaccine regimen, and provide proof within three days of being contacted.

Drawing for Eligible Students

  • Selected students will be asked to show proof of vaccination.
  • Students are encouraged to verify that their contact information is current in the ctcLink Student Center.

Timeline

  • The drawing will be held between July 15 - 25. Students will be notified immediately if they are selected.
  • If a student does not respond within three days, or declines/refuses the scholarship, the next eligible student will be contacted.

These scholarship funds can be used any time during the 2021-22 academic year.

What is the Vaccination Incentive Program?

On June 3, 2021, Governor Inslee publicly announced a vaccination incentive program called “Shot of a Lifetime.” The program included funds for institutions of higher education (IHE) to fund their own vaccine incentive programs. Each two-year IHE received $10,000 to be given away as scholarships in a selection process that will take place in July 2021.

  • Washington residents or students who have been living in Washington state for at least 30 days before the date of the award of the scholarship (International students who fall under this requirement are eligible).
  • Proof of at least one shot of COVID-19 vaccination.

How do I sign up to be part of the drawing?

  • There is no sign-up. Students who were enrolled for at least six credits during spring term, and did not graduate or complete, will be automatically entered into the drawing.
  • Upon being selected, students will be asked to show proof of vaccination by showing their vaccination card.

How can the scholarship be used?

  • The $1,000 award is a scholarship that can help pay for tuition, books, fees, supplies and other costs that are required for enrollment at Pierce College.
  • For tax purposes, this scholarship cannot be used for “incidental expenses,” such as room and board. The scholarship is meant to pay for direct educational expenses.

Will this affect my financial aid or public assistance?

  • Acceptance of a vaccine incentive award may affect a student’s eligibility for and calculated amounts of federal financial aid and/or public assistance programs.
  • If you are receiving financial aid for fall quarter, Pierce College Financial Aid will help determine if you will be affected or not.
  • You may want to contact your state caseworker if this will affect public assistance.

How and when will I receive this scholarship?

Selected students will fill out an acceptance form and connect with our Cashiering Office to arrange payment. These scholarship funds must be used by the end of Spring Term 2022.

How will I know if I win?

Pierce College will contact all winners no later than July 30.
