Services Request Timeline
In order to ensure ADS has enough time to arrange for your accommodations and auxiliary aid(s), students should request approved accommodations in a timely manner. Below is a list of services and appropriate timelines for most circumstances to help guide you in making your requests. Accommodations can be request at any time during the quarter, but are not retroactive. Late requests may take a while to arrange. When it comes to accommodations, sooner is always better than later but later will work too.
Accessible Instructional Materials
Examples: Image files, Electronic files to use with text-to-speech technology
Requests for these accessible instructional materials should be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to the first day of class.
Examples: Electronic files to use with screen reader technology, Braille, Tactile Graphics, Electronic files that contain Science, Technology, Engineering or Math content to use with text-to-speech technology. Video media with audio descriptions
Requests for these accessible instructional materials should be submitted at least 5 weeks prior to the first day of class.
Classroom Services
Examples: Classroom Relocation, Furniture Requests (tables, chairs, podiums), Lab Assistants, Readers, Scribes
Requests for classroom services should be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to the first day of class.
Communication Access
Examples: Real Time Captioning, ASL Interpreter, Video Captioning
Requests for communication access services are made through myADS. Recurring classroom and multi-day event requests should be submitted at least 5 weeks in advance. Requests for one-time events and meetings should be submitted at least 10 days in advance.
Clinicals, Clerkships, Practicums, Externships, Internships and Other Non-Classroom Activities
Accommodations relevant for non-classroom activities should be discussed with ADS as soon as possible. The process to evaluate, design and implement accommodations in these settings need to be done well in advance of the start of the fieldwork and preferably before locations are assigned, since accommodations at these sights can involve a multi-department effort.
Disability Related Absences Agreement
Complete a Disability Related Absences Agreement for each class, with your professor, before the end of the second week of the classes.
Exam Accommodations
Exam request deadlines:
- Regular exams and quizzes: 3 days
- Mid-terms and quizzes: 5 business days
- Finals: 10 business days
If you are not able to submit your request for test accommodations by the deadline, please contact ADS anyway. We will do our very best to get you scheduled for your exam.
Foreign Language Requirement Substitution
Foreign language substitutions should be requested as soon as possible for multiple departments work together on process. Need sufficient time to process request.
Notetaking Services
Requests for notetaking services should be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the first day of class.
Study Abroad
Requests for accommodations on study abroad trips should be submitted in writing to ADS at least 8 weeks prior to the departure date.
