High Altitude Balloon (HAB) Camp
For students entering grades 10-12
Date and Time: August 11 through 14 and 18 through 20, 2025. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, except launch day. Launch day will be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Launch day is tentatively scheduled for August 18, with August 19 as a back-up for bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Cost: HAB Camp is free thanks to support from the Pierce College Science Dome and Washington Space Grant! Campers will be responsible for bringing water bottles, snacks, and lunch for each day excluding launch day.
This camp is a project-based experience in which you will have seven days to construct, test, launch, and analyze data from your very own experiment sent to the edge of space on a high altitude balloon (HAB). This camp includes a one-day trip to eastern Washington, where you will launch and retrieve the HAB. This is a great opportunity to learn scientific, engineering, and coding skills while being creative and having fun with your peers!
We encourage anyone who is interested to apply. However, the number of spots available in HAB Camp is limited and this is a competitive application. Priority will be given to those who show a genuine interest in HABs, those who apply by June 13, and those who have not attended HAB Camp before.
Priority will be given to applications received by June 13.
