Feeling Korea Study Tour at Jeonbuk National University

Pierce College students are invited to participate in the Summer Feeling Korea program offered by our partner university Jeonbuk National University in Summer 2025.

  • Please note: These courses will be led by Jeonbuk University faculty. Due to our partnership with Jeonbuk University, Pierce College students will earn 4.5 Humanities credits (HUM 999) upon completion of this summer program.
  • To participate in study tours, students must:
  • Hold a non-Korean passport and be 18+ years old by travel date
  • Have a valid passport (please note that passports can take up to 12 weeks to be processed).

Jeonbuk National University, founded in 1947, is the first national university established in the southern region of the Republic of Korea. It is a globally renowned institution that has played a leading role in the development of both the local region and the nation. In addition to its main campus in Jeonju, the university operates a total of seven campuses, including specialized campuses in AI, carbon, renewable energy, agricultural life, and veterinary science. Evolving into a platform university for empathy and innovation, the university is recognized globally for its competitiveness in the QS World University Evaluation, THE Asia University evaluation, and the Leiden Ranking Evaluation. 

Jeonbuk National University is located in the city of Jeonju, capital of Jeonbuk State.  Jeonju, with its splendid history as the royal capital of Hubaekje and the birthplace of the Joseon Dynasty, is a cultural city that stands among the best in East Asia. Furthermore, Jeonju has been designated by UNESCO as a Slow City and a Creative City of Gastronomy. Jeonju Hanok Village is the only urban Hanok village in the country, with important cultural assets and 20 cultural landmarks.  As a leading travel destination in South Korea, its attractions showcase Korea’s unique style and vitality. Additionally, Washington state and Jeonbuk are sister states, a partnership that fosters peace and cross-cultural understanding.

You will visit the following sites during your stay: 

  • Hanok village tour
  • Mt. Deogyu
  • Muji Taekwondo Center
  • Seoul
  • Gyeongbokgung, Myeong-dong

Students will have the opportunity to participate in the following cultural activities:

  • Korean language class
  • Making Korean paper fans
  • Making a handcrafted personal seal
  • Sunchang Jang Making Experience
  • Bibimbab and Hanji crafts
  • Imshil P’ilbong farm music

Program Fees

The program fee is $800 and includes:

  • Bus transportation between Incheon Airport and JBNU
  • Accommodation (double occupancy in the JBNU dormitories)
  • Meals (weekdays only)
  • Korean language classes
  • Activity and field trip fees

The program fee does not include the following:

  • Airfare
  • Travel health insurance
  • Personal expenses
  • Weekend meals
  • Spending money and incidentals
  • Passport application fees ($165 non expedited)
  • Visa or K-ETA fees (requirements vary depending on nationality of traveler)

Changes in Cost or Scope of Program

In the event of significant devaluations of the dollar, some adjustments to program activities may be necessary. If there are any political events that might compromise the safety of the participants, a rescheduling or cancellation of the program may be necessary. If such changes occur, students will be notified of the changes and options will be presented.
Please also note these plans are subject to change based on world health conditions. Pierce College follows both U.S. Department of State and CDC recommendations for travel. Orientation

To be eligible to study abroad, all program participants must attend pre-departure orientations facilitated by the program directors and International Education.
