In recognition of their high academic achievements, four outstanding Pierce College students were recently honored at the 2025 All-Washington Academic Team ceremony. Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, introduced the All-USA Academic Team nearly 30 years ago to honor students for their scholastic achievement and community service efforts. In its 29th year, the All-Washington Academic Team recognizes 84 students from community and technical colleges across Washington state, honoring them for their commitment to success and achievement in academics and in the communities in which they live.

Pierce College Fort Steilacoom selected Sophia Lana Castro and Frank Mucheke. Pierce College Puyallup selected Tehina Casey and Daniil Nahliuk.

The students who make up the All-Washington Academic Team reflect the diversity of our Pierce College community and our state, and each of them maintain high standards of academic excellence and contribute positively to the community.

In recognition of the event, hosted by South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Washington Governor Bob Ferguson signed a proclamation naming April 24, 2025, All-Washington Academic Team Day.

"This day is about 84 remarkable young people," said South Puget Sound Community College President Tim Stokes. "If you take a look at the bios for the All-Washington Academic Team, you'll marvel at the diversity of the paths they've taken to arrive at this moment. Yours are 84 separate, remarkable journeys, but they represent 360,000 students across our state. They illustrate your commitment to academic excellent and your commitment to your communities."
